JW and Simone

Hilton Head, was a fun tournament, because it gave us a number of new and different partnerships. One of the more exciting ones was the partnership of JW Johnson and Simone Jardim. They did drop one game to Zane and Vivienne, but otherwise they rolled through the bracket on their way to gold. It was an interesting mix of the veteran Simone and the young gun in JW, and I though both players benefited from the partnership. I thought JW benefited from the steadiness and experience of Simone, while Simone clearly seemed to be feeding off the energy of the new partnership as she seemed to be playing with more aggression and passion than we have seen in quite some time.

Will we be seeing more of this partnership in 2022? I think both players could benefit from this partnership in 2022, but Simone will have plenty of competition as JW has to be one of the hottest commodities in the game. - NML Pickleball Blog

Interview Clip
Welcome back to the Franklin Pickleball Studio. I'm with JW Johnson and Simone Jardim. Again, guys congratulations winners bracket final you take down Jocelyn Devilliers and Jesse Irvine.
A different match-up than earlier when you guys played when we had you on championship court going up against Jocelyn and Jesse. Simone you know them very well. JW been around the sport enough to know both of those players. What's your game plan Simone against them?

Simone: For me, it doesn't change. I had never played with JW. But, after seeing what was going on, the game doesn't change, we stay the same and we go at it because ultimately it's gonna pay off. So, I kind of set it up. I pretty much lit the fire and let it burn.

I love it. Simone, spoken like a true teacher. A true coach. Right? You have been doing it for years. So, have I. We've been in this game, and not in this game, but in you know coaching and whatnot and when you say that to everybody at home listening. You stick with your game plan. Let them adjust to you, first. Right? That's what you're saying. Let them adjust to you before you adjust to anything that they have. Correct?

Simone: Yeah. I found out what JW's strengths were. Which again, it's almost everything. But, especially, like how fast his hands are. That was really it. I mean he's like Usain Bolt with a pickleball paddle.

JW playing with Simone going in and playing Jocelyn who you're very familiar with. You play him a lot in singles and doubles and then playing against Jesse. When you're handling Jocelyn's hand battles and you're winning most of those. Is that just building your confidence?

JW: Oh, yeah. It is .But, it is a bit dangerous going to Jessie, since she was smacking winners left and right past me. I was just trying to get into the fast hands battle because that's where we thrive. It was working.
